So much for the sunny beaches of Brazil

Wow how plans can change when travelling the world. I crossed over to Brazil this past Sunday with a complete route planned allowing me to see the beautiful country. Now here I sit 6 days later still in Foz do Iguacu, waiting for the civil protests and riots to ebb.

Foz do Iguacu seems to be unaffected at the moment, but there are over 100 cities that currently have protests within them.

The people of Brazil are tired of internal government corruption, high taxes and misuse of funds. It is hard to believe but the start to this unrest was a 10 cent hike on bus fairs. The people are also mad about the government spending millions on hosting the 2014 FIFA world cup. Yet people do not have access to proper health care and education.

Another example is the capital city of Brasilia where they are constructing a multi million dollar stadium for the world cup. Yet the city itself does not even have a soccer team and the people are asking who will use this infrastructure after the games.

So I believe I will sit it out here for a few more days too see if the situation returns to normal. It would be such a shame to drive all the way from Canada and not get to tan my ass on some of the beaches of Rio!
